Season 8 is coming to a
close, and this week, Idol
Fans will witness a final
round that features two very
different singing styles.
While we've said all along
that
Adam Lambert was the one
to beat, last week's voting
showed us that anything is
possible. It seemed a
certainty that Lambert and
Danny Gokey would be the two
left standing, but the
voters thought otherwise,
propelling
Kris Allen into
the final two. We give the
edge to Lambert, partly
because of our obvious bias,
but mostly because of his
range and adaptability.
While Adam Lambert can take
a ballad, a pop song, or an
all-out rock classic and
make it his own unique
masterpiece, Kris Allen's
style is more limited.
Put a guitar in Allen's
hands and he seems to
transform into a more
confident, charismatic
singer, but at times, his
song choices have not been
the best, leaving judges
like Simon Cowell expecting
his departure.
Nevertheless, he's still
here, and we're expecting an
exciting finals. Like
past Idol seasons, this
year's competition will
probably come down to song
choices. It's
important at this stage of
the game to reach out to the
voting demographic and belt
out three tunes that the
voters know, like and are
accustomed to.
Lambert's always had the
ability to do that, but we
feel he should choose any
rock songs carefully and not
fall into the Chris Daughtry
trap of choosing a song that
he does well, but the
younger voters are not
familiar with.
For Allen to take the
title, he's got two do two
things. 1. Make
quality song choices and 2.
get Simon Cowell on his
side. Simon is clearly
in favor of Adam Lambert in
this competition, but a
solid performance by Allen,
and some good praise from
Simon could easily turn the
voters around. Allen
could also hope for a
slip-up or two from Lambert,
but the chances of that are
unlikely, as Adam seems
flawless in all of his
performances - so the
chances of him turning in a
bum performance are slim.
It should be fun and we're
excited to tune in this
week!
